My origin story
As a child, I dreamed of becoming a writer. I inhaled books like oxygen and scribbled additions to well-known stories in the margins, fantasizing about one day becoming ✨an author✨.
It wasn’t long before I started writing my own stories. And as I continued to grow, so did my love for writing.
In high school, I was winning writing contests and offered publishing deals. In college, my short stories were being published and gaining attention from my professors. At the same time, I found myself becoming my classmates’ go-to editor. And I loved it.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, then followed my passion for the written word by becoming a professional editor. I worked as Editor-In-Chief and Lead Editor for various companies before starting my own business. In 2018, I launched Bernard’s Editorial Services to help writers master their craft, improve their writing skills, and create polished, well-developed content. Since then, I’ve worked with countless students, business owners, job seekers, and authors editing hundreds of books—from memoirs to children’s books, fantasy novels to poetry collections.
Outside of my editing career, I still thoroughly enjoy writing and have published two poetry collections (Life As It Is & Other Poems and 13 Angry Trolls and Other Rhymes) with a third in the works. I also volunteer as a copy editor for The Mindfulness Bell, a magazine on Buddhism and mindful living, and as a reader and judge for Brilliant Flash Fiction‘s literary journal.
I love spending time in nature—so much so that I spent a year traveling across the United States in an RV with my partner and our three cats (+ a good friend and her pup). We camped almost exclusively on forest roads and BLM land, living as wildly as we could. We walked in dinosaur footprints, called eagles and pronghorn our neighbors, bathed in glacial rivers, and saw more than we ever thought we’d see in our lives. It was an incredible adventure I’ll never forget. All the images on this site are from our travels.
I also enjoy playing guitar, bass, ukulele, piano, and kalimba. I like mountain biking, but I mostly stick to the green and blue trails. I’m passionate about mental health and self-improvement. I enjoy painting and video games and yoga. I value kindness and compassion above all else. I believe the life of an insect is just as important as any other living creature. And I believe we’re all capable of greatness if given the chance.
